CHINA
ADOPTION PROGRAM
OUR
AGENCY WILL NOT BE OFFERING A CHINA PROGRAM IN
2008.
Each
year since the early 1990’s families from the
United States have been adopting thousands of beautiful Chinese children.
Due
to the cultural gender preference for boys, many
female children who are born to married couples,
are abandoned and taken to orphanages. Therefore,
the millions of orphaned children in
China
are primarily girls, and they are residing in
orphanages.
Parent Eligibility
Married couples
between 30 to 55 years of age, with or without
children, may adopt a healthy child or request a
special needs child. Infants over a year may be
referred to parents over 47 years of age. No
single parents may adopt from China beginning May
1, 2007. China is also, implementing stringent
medical and social policies for families
eligibility beginning May 1, 2007.
Waiting Children Needing Families
Infant
girls 9 months and older at time of travel.
We are able to place children from orphanages
throughout
China
and our staff has established relationships with
many orphanage directors. On occasion,
children live in a foster care home rather than in
an
orphanage.
Length and Predictability of process
The
adoption process for
China
is wonderfully regulated and typically very
smooth. Our
China
staff is efficient, personable and compassionately
caring to families throughout their adoption
journey in country.
Upon
receipt of all your documents, we send your
dossier to
China
. Approximately, 24 to 36 months from the
time your dossier is logged in at the CCAA in
China, you
will receive your referral. When a child is
referred to you, you receive two to three
photographs of the child and a medical examination
report. This report states the child's head
circumference, height and weight and the results
of Hepatitis B tests. You also receive a
developmental checklist describing your child's
progress.
Travel to Country
At
least one of the adopting parents must travel to
China
to finalize the adoption in country. Our
program will only send groups of between 6 to 8
adopting families at a time. We have Associates in
China who will guide these SMALL GROUPS
throughout the entire process in country. Our
groups are smaller in order to optimize the
potential of individualized services for families
and their new child.
Travel dates are approximately 6-8 weeks
after acceptance of a referral and the typical
in-country stay is about 15 days. You will
first travel to
Beijing
, then to the province capitol where your child is
residing to finalize the adoption. The last
portion of your trip will be to appear at the U.S.
Consulate in
Guangzhou
to obtain your child's
U.S.
visa.
The
trip to
China
is a wonderful opportunity to experience your
child's culture and to travel "worry
free" with all of the details arranged by our
delightful English speaking staff. They will meet
your plane and remain with you throughout your
stay until you bring your child HOME!
FAMILY ADOPTION STORY
We
adopted our daughter Holly from the Guangdong
Province of China. She was 9.5 months old
when we brought her home. She is the JOY of
our life. Our adoption experience was
exceptional. Our
U.S.
staff was very knowledgeable, caring and
friendly. They walked us through every step
of the way. We loved working with them.
The
foreign staff was outstanding, too. We had a
wonderful trip to
China
to receive our daughter. We were in a small
group and the trip was very personal and well
organized. Words really cannot express how happy
we are with our adoption decision.
