FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS BIRTH PARENT'S MAY CONSIDER

Q: "If the agency wants me to complete paperwork and I fill it out, do I have to place my baby for adoption?"

A: No, any forms we request you fill out are designed to assist us in working with you to create your adoption plan. In Arizona, state law requires that you will have 72 hours following the birth of your child to make your final decision. After you sign consents for adoption your decision becomes final and irrevocable. This is a life- long decision and we will support your process throughout the period prior to the birth of your child and after.

Q: "Will I be allowed to pick the potential adoptive family for my child?"

A: Yes, you will definitely have the opportunity to choose the family you think would be the best adoptive parents for your child. This is your adoption plan to create, including choosing the family, how you want things to be planned during your hospital stay, and your preferences for contact and communication with the adoptive family after placement.

Q: "What information will I receive about the adoptive parents?"

A: We will provide you with adoptive parent profiles that our waiting families have prepared for your perusal. They are designed and created by the adoptive families to offer you a vision of who would be adopting your child. Generally, they will provide information regarding their education, work, marriage, extended family, interests, pets, and lifestyle with photos.

Q: "How do I know the family I select will be good to my child?"

A: All families working with our agency must be approved to adopt according to Arizona state laws. The approval process is comprehensive. This approval process is called a Home Study Certification. It involves an FBI check, a state criminal check, a child abuse check, medical exams, an inspection of their home, examination of financial records and multiple recommendations. You have to REALLY want to and be committed to becoming a parent to put yourself through this scrutiny.

Q: "Can I have the opportunity to get to know the adoptive family on a personal level?"

A: If you choose to, you can get to know them on a personal level. This often times instills more trust between all members in the adoption process. Often, it can be very important to get to know the adoptive parents you have chosen to raise your unborn child, so you do not feel like they are strangers.

Q: "What information will adoptive parents be given about birth parents?"

A: Our birth parent/s will initially meet with agency staff to discuss the creation of their adoption plan. We request they provide information regarding their health, family history, personality, likes, dislikes, talents and interests as these may be a window into your child’s talents, as well. You will be asked to sign releases of information for your pre-natal care and medical records from the hospital to be provided to the adoptive family after placement.

Q: "Will I have to pay for services?"

A: No, you will not have to pay for any services provided to you. All services are completely free of charge to our birth parents.
